School visits
A visit from an author can be inspirational and confidence-boosting for students, and will do much to promote a culture of reading for pleasure in the school. I love talking to young people about my writing, their writing and the whole writing process. You can see the effect of an author visit from this feedback after my recent visit to a group of year 9s.
I offer whole-cohort assemblies for Years 8 and 9 (Crossing the Line and my author journey) and I also offer smaller group creative writing workshops, for example, on aspects of narrative verse. Please contact me for details via the contact page.
I’m happy to travel from my home in Norwich, but may need to adjust my charges accordingly, or ask you to band together with another school. For more information and fees, please contact me directly.
My grateful thanks to the Year 9 students at Beaumont School who produced a whole leaflet of feedback after my visit.
It’s really helpful to know that the various messages landed. If any member of your team needs convincing that an author visit is worth it, there is no better proof.
“Meeting Tia was an absolute privilege. A truly inspiring workshop, eye opening to the process of writing a hit novel and the story behind it.”
“It was amazing. It really helped me understand the issues she tackled in her book and showed the ups and downs of novel writing.”
“I really enjoyed meeting Tia Fisher. I was able to ask questions about her book and it made me understand the deeper meaning . . .”
“It was really inspiring to learn about Tia’s journey through writing and the reasons behind the subjects that she writes about.”

“The students absolutely loved having a real life author come and speak to them. We thought you discussed some tough subjects in a sensitive and relatable way and how you brought their stories to life in the workshop was amazing to watch. Our students were fascinated to hear about Erik's story and we now have a waiting list of students who want to read how it ends. We will definitely be recommending you to other schools!”

‘You hit our brief exactly with your talks, which was to appeal to reader and non readers alike. Year 9 is a tricky year group and you had the students captivated.’
